This site is dedicated to the Noorduyn Norseman bush
plane by the family of its creator, RBC Noorduyn.
My name is Julie Boddy. I built this site originally several years ago as a way to connect
with my (now) late grandfather, Robert Noorduyn, son of RBC Noorduyn. I am
not a Norseman expert by any means, but I wanted to help bring his
expertise and passion to others and this was the mechanism of doing
so. It also helped me get to know him and know more about my family
history, which was an amazing gift once my grandfather's mental
health started deteriorating due to Alzheimer's before his death in
2008. I keep the site going in his honor.
Altogether there were 903 Norsemans built, beginning
in November 1935. The last one was completed in 1959. They have been
flown in, or over, 67+ countries in the world, plus the Arctic and
Antarctic continents. I began this site as a gift to my grandfather,
Robert Noorduyn, and as a tribute to his father, Robert B.C.
Noorduyn. He passed away in September of 2008 and I want to keep
this site up in his honour, the best I can.
It is astonishing to me the emotion and love this
plane has evoked from people all over the world. I have received
emails from many people who have had experiences with a Norseman and
all have very fond memories. I have decided to start sharing these
emails, with the author's permission of course. I will start posting
them over the next few weeks.
If you have any stories you would like to share,
feel free to drop me an email.
Thanks!
